Nintendo eventually responded to the unprecedented gamers’ mobilization with the following statement : “Thank you for your enthusiasm. We promised an update, so here it is. We never say ‘never,’ but we can confirm that there are no plans to bring these three games to the Americas at this time. Thanks so much for your passion, and for being such great fans!”
Despite being astonishingly cynical, this reaction was expected and the “never say never” part even brought some hope from some members’ point of view. I’ve built three hypothesis about what the statement could mean :
First, it can be that NoA indeed has plans to bring some of the RPGs that Operation Rainfall is asking for, but has a scheduled date/period for the official announcement. However, E3 being behind us, no important event will be held in North America before… Nintendo’s investor briefing in January/February 2012! All the other exhibition will be in Japan or Europe. Therefore I see this first possibility as unlikely.
Secondly, perhaps NoA doesn’t give a damn sh*** about JRPGs and the “never say never” thing is just a huge PR stunt to make everyone calm down. This is no gonna work…
The thrid and most likely explanation to me is that NoA intends to make RPG HD collection including those three games for WiiU so as to have more core gamers buy the system at launch. There is a huge flaw in that theory though : such a scheme should normally be a common strategy between NA and Europe, and we know that Nintendo Europe already has Xenoblade ready for Wii.
